Hey hey!

Have you heard of System Thinking?

Generally, it is a methodical approach to explain and optimize the behavior of dynamic and complex systems. With systems thinking, you learn to look at challenges holistically in order to make better decisions for the long-term direction.

This approach offers you a range of tools and questions that help you explain the properties of a system, to recognize patterns, to formulate hypotheses and to derive sustainable solution strategies.

“With system thinking you see the forest and the trees.” – Barry Richmond

Looking at the context of our project, we thought about what system is built around our idea. We looked at which interconnectivities, trends, structures, events and models might have an impact on our product.

And here are the results:

The first map displays the different systems we considered, looking at our M.I.N.T product. The social system including the health care system. The health care system including the technical system and the inner circle: our M.I.N.T system.

The second vizualisation shows the Iceberg Model as an example of identifiying the different systems and their relationships.

We concluded that the mental models of society, from the present and the past, can have a massive impact on our solution. Either through their stigmatization of mental illness or their aversion to new technologies: society’s thought model ultimately determines their response to our new treatment method.

Stay tuned!
