As we continue refining our concept for sustainable agricultural irrigation, we’ve made significant progress in both the Water Information System – now called AquaLink – and the evolution of TerraDrip into TerraBot. We also started designing an App named AgriFlow. These updates reflect our further understanding of the problem space and our continuous improvement cycles.
AquaLink: Real-Time Water Management Prototype
Our Water Information System has undergone a major transformation and is now named AquaLink. This system integrates smart monitoring and automated water allocation to ensure sustainable irrigation. To bring this concept closer to reality, we built a prototype using Arduino, demonstrating water flow management with pumps and a scaled-down model. This hands-on approach allowed us to test and refine our ideas, ensuring that AquaLink can dynamically respond to water availability and optimize usage.
TerraBot: The Next Step in Smart Ploughing
Originally, we envisioned TerraDrip as a buried drip irrigation system with removable hoses. However, installation complexity and labor intensity led us to rethink our approach. Our new solution, TerraBot, is a small autonomous robot designed to plough the soil while navigating around pre-installed drip irrigation pipes. This ensures efficient soil aeration without disturbing the irrigation system. The shift to robotics enhances the adaptability and ease of use, making sustainable irrigation more accessible to farmers, as the robots can be reused on multiple fields.
AgriFlow: The Smart Irrigation App
Our latest addition to the system is AgriFlow, a smart application designed to empower farmers with real-time irrigation insights. AgriFlow helps farmers monitor, manage, and optimize their irrigation efforts by providing:
- Field Irrigation Status – Farmers can see which fields need watering based on soil moisture levels, crop type, and weather data.
- Water Source Tracking – AgriFlow displays where the water is coming from (groundwater, surface water, or treated wastewater).
- Smart Recommendations – Using sensor data and predictive analytics, AgriFlow suggests the best irrigation schedules to conserve water and maximize yield.
- Remote Control Integration – Future plans include allowing farmers to control irrigation systems directly from the app, automating water distribution for maximum efficiency.
By integrating AquaLink, TerraBot, and AgriFlow, we are building a holistic system that transforms water management, irrigation, and field maintenance into a seamless, intelligent, and sustainable process.
What’s Next?
- Talking to farmers to answer further questions about current irrigation practices
- Making a Prototype for TerraBot
- Refining TerraBot, AgriFlow and AquaLink
Our journey has already led to some changes to the ideas, and we are excited to see what changes will result from further discussions and iterations!
